In celebration of our centennial, the Texas High Plains Writers is hosting a writing contest that will award a total of $1,500 in scholarship funds. The contest is open to Texas Panhandle high school seniors and Amarillo College and West Texas A&M students.
Entries will be judged by published authors who are members of Texas High Plains Writers. The winners will be notified on August 1, 2020.
The writing categories are short story, essay, and creative non-fiction. The winner of each category will receive a $500 scholarship. To receive the scholarship funds, the winners must provide a college or university acceptance letter or registration papers.
- DEADLINE for entries is July 1, 2020. Entries must be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- ENTRY must be an original, unpublished work of the student and be between 1,000 and 2,000 words. Multiple submissions are permitted.
- CONTACT INFORMATION: Your name, email address, cell phone number, title of your work, and the category (either “short story”, “essay”, or “creative non-fiction”) should be the first things listed on your entry.
- FORMAT: The font should be black Times New Roman 12 point and text must be double-spaced with 1″ margins on all four sides.
